My Journey to Mayer Creative Designs

I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of design and communication — especially when it helps make complex things feel clear and approachable. Before stepping into the world of architecture, I got my start designing digital and print materials for universities, campus outreach teams, and study abroad programs. I was fascinated by how thoughtful visuals and messaging could guide someone through a decision they didn’t even know they were ready to make. That’s when I first fell in love with design thinking — especially when it came to helping people feel seen, understood, and empowered.

From there, I nearly pivoted into UX/UI design while living in Austin, Texas, intrigued by how digital spaces could shape human experience. But life happens and I knew I ultimately wanted to come home to San Antonio, where I jumped right into architecture. I didn’t know it yet, but everything I was exposed to in exploring user experience design was HEAVILY overlapping with architecture. Physical spaces hold stories, just like the digital ones. They can influence how we feel, how we gather, and how we grow. I wanted to help build those kinds of spaces, especially for people who don’t always feel like design was made for them. Perhaps I have a sense of softness towards this group because I felt (still feel?) the “architecture” world can be exclusive and nose-raised. I knew I could help fight that fight.

In 2020, I officially began my journey into architecture. I dove deep into the language of design learning how built environments shape memory, encourage reflection, and create opportunities for connection. In 2024, I joined my family’s firm to learn the ins and outs of running a business and serving clients with care. It became a proving ground for how I wanted to work: with clarity, compassion, and curiosity.

In 2025, I launched Mayer Creative Designs - a studio focused on making design more accessible to small business owners, solo entrepreneurs, and creatives in Central Texas. My work blends architectural design, branding, and storytelling because I believe your space should work for you, reflect who you are, and support where you’re going.

Too often, small business owners make design decisions based solely on short-term budgets without a trusted partner to help them think long-term. I want to be that partner. Someone who can talk business, material choices, growth planning, and brand alignment all at once.

I’m especially passionate about working with women and underrepresented business owners who might not feel like traditional design services were made with them in mind. Whether the barriers are financial, systemic, or psychological, I want to create an environment where clients feel safe to explore, ask questions, and build something that truly reflects their lived experience.

Because I believe good design isn’t about status, it’s about support. And Central Texas deserves to be a place where entrepreneurs feel equipped to take that next leap with confidence.
