Spring showers and their flowers
They say this year the hill country might not get a lot of wildflowers. I’m thankful I have some bluebonnets from last year that didn’t sprout too much last year but are coming back strong this year! I threw some seeds in the yard last year for fun and I’m so glad that I did! I love watching them grow wild leaves in the front yard.
This season is kicking off with a springtime market on the southside of town with Bonita Market Co. It’s looking to rain a bit for the market but hopefully it will kick in after we’re packed up post-market hours. I’m excited for the inventory I’ve been able to grow since Christmas. I learn from the things that people were interested in buy were not buying, or simply the things that I loved but no comments, no sales from those. At first I was looking for something to hit quick, but now I’m thankful it didn’t because it’s forcing me to go slow and learn more in the process than the end goal - which is to continue sharing & promoting artisan crafts from local people.
This weekend I’ll be kicking the bluebonnet pieces into high gear! I’ve got wildflower framed art, unframed paintings, mini canvas sunsets, and recently hand painted boards (not food safe but look pretty!).
Fb marketplace is something I’ve been exploring recently, in terms of picking up raw materials. I love that not only are they sometimes less expensive than purchasing in the store, it’s also saving pieces from going into the landfill. When I say used, I mostly mean it was in someone else’s possession before mine, and not the store. For example, I scored some unused boards from another crafter that laser engraved hers and I think she either had excess inventory or no longer wanted to do it. So I took the boards and got to paint on them! Win-win.
This Spring is pacing to be a learning curve, as I’m still in the first year in the market scene and even the first year since I established the Co! Lots of seeds were definitely planted last year and I’m excited to see them continue blossoming as I round out the first year!
